In 2013, Greek researchers studied 8 species of cypress.
The objective was to evaluate their effectiveness against mosquito larvae.
The result?
3 of them naturally contain DEET, a molecule used in the manufacture of commercial mosquito repellents.
Simply put a few drops of cypress essential oil in your diffuser.
You can also add a few drops of essential oil of Scots pine and clary sage with it.
This mixture is particularly effective against mosquitoes.
Make yourself a homemade repellent by mixing a few drops of cypress essential oil with camellia oil.
Camellia oil has the advantage of being light and absorbing quickly.
All that remains is to spray this oil on yourself and your clothes.
According to an Italian study, the essential oil of fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is very effective against mosquitoes.
It would cause the mortality of half of the mosquito larvae, which is not negligible!
You can diffuse fennel essential oil directly in your diffuser.
But it's not the only solution to fight those pesky mosquitoes!
There is also a quick and easy recipe for making a 100% natural mosquito repellent spray.
To make this repellent spray, simply dilute a few drops of fennel essential oil in a little 70° alcohol or dispersant.
This floral essential oil is known for its stimulating properties.
But clary sage also repels mosquitoes, including the tiger mosquito!
I would even say that it terrifies mosquitoes!
To use clary sage essential oil, mix it in a room spray or diffuser with water and a little alcohol.
As it is an ideal oil for relaxing, put 3 or 4 drops of clary sage essential oil in your diffuser.
You will kill two birds with one stone:relaxation and mosquito repellent.
Don't forget to place your diffuser in the room where the mosquitoes are attacking you!
I love immortelle (helichrysum italicum) essential oil, because it promotes wound healing, but it is also very effective against mosquitoes.
Like fennel oil, immortelle also kills mosquito larvae.
To repel mosquitoes, diffuse immortelle essential oil in your home.
This creates a stimulating floral ambiance that will deter these critters from entering your home.
Also mix it in a spray; immortelle goes well with roman chamomile, clary sage, clove or cypress.
You can also mix immortelle with a base such as camellia oil and use it as a body oil.
Yarrow (achillea millefolium) has a sweet, fresh smell and is effective against mosquitoes.
It pairs well with clary sage and cypress.
Again, simply put this essential oil in your diffuser.
For even more effectiveness, you can also add the other repellent essential oils we have just mentioned.
All you have to do is turn on your diffuser in the house to keep mosquitoes away.
Researchers at the University of Iowa tested the potency of catnip essential oil (nepeta cataria) against mosquitoes.
They found that catnip is 10 times more effective at repelling mosquitoes than the chemical compound used in most commercial insect repellents.
It would scare away about 80% of the mosquitoes present in a room.
To use your catnip essential oil:put it in your diffuser or room spray to diffuse it around the house.
You can also dilute it in a light oil like camellia oil and apply it to your uncovered skin.
Mosquitoes hate this oil and won't come and bite you again.
Lemon eucalyptus (eucalyptus citriodora) is often used in natural mixtures against insects.
It is very effective against different types of mosquitoes such as Anopheles gambiae.
This essential oil smells very good!
It has a fresh and lemony aroma that is ideal for a summer atmosphere.
Put this lemony, refreshing essential oil in an aromatic room spray that will deter mosquitoes.
This oil also pairs well with lavender, lime, bergamot, and tea tree.
