They had suggested the Swedish giant create furniture for pets for years.
IKEA finally responded to this request by creating KÄT:
A sofa / scratching post designed specifically for people who love furry animals.

KÄT sofa has normal cushions for human comfort, but its frame is made from corrugated cardboard.
It's perfect for felines who want to do their claws....
Your cat will be happy and so will you! Because it won't shred your furniture anymore.
This sofa is made exclusively from cardboard. The cartons themselves come from trees in the far north of Sweden.
Each tree used is carefully selected and treated.
We strive to use all the wood from each tree. So we don't waste any resources!
IKEA spokeswoman Lykke Eklund says she thinks the KÄT is the first sofa of its kind in the world.
It was made after a year of studying how people live with their pets.
The company will monitor sales carefully in the coming months to review demand. These results will be used to eventually develop other products to satisfy pets and their owners in the future.
While the KÄT has already been available in Japan since January, it will be sold in the United States this summer. I don't know about you but we hope this clever sofa will soon be available in France!
