Max is again the most popular dog name at the moment. In 2016, the name came in at number one. It is suspected that the popularity has to do with the success of Max Verstappen in Formula 1. After Max, Pip, Bella, Bailey and Bo follow. Luna is the most popular name among cat owners. This name has pushed Pip from the top spot. Then in the top five are Nala, Coco and Max. The name Tijgertje is no longer popular. Last year the name already fell out of the top five and it is now no longer even in the top ten.
The name search has been carried out annually since 2006 by pet insurer Reaal Dier &Zorg. The results are based on an analysis of more than 120,000 policyholders.
